What are Calendly groups?
Groups are created within Calendly and are available on our Professional, Teams, and Enterprise plans. They let organization owners and admins categorize users by parameters of their choosing. In conjunction with managed events, admins can also assign groups standardized event types.

Why should I use groups?
Groups are great for organizing a growing user base within your Calendly account. Some examples include:
- grouping by department (marketing, sales, recruiting, etc.)
- grouping within a large department (groups in sales based on time zones, territory, etc.)
- grouping by job title (SDRs, HRBPs, AEs, etc.)
Organizing your team with groups helps keep track of who needs certain Calendly events. With managed events, you can automatically assign all of your sales teams the same sales-oriented event types, and (on Teams and Enterprise plans) lock changes from being made by accident! We also recommend creating a default group as a way to report on uncategorized users, while also delivering managed events to those users that fit the company brand and experience.
What is automatic provisioning?
Automatic provisioning uses SCIM to bring in user data from the same SSO dataset. The most basic example would be using SCIM to automatically put a user's name and email address into Calendly. Then the user can log in immediately via their SSO, without having unique account information.
By automating group provisioning, you can have a user not only added into Calendly, but into their specific spot in Calendly based on your group divisions. This helps your Calendly organization mimic your organization at large.
How can I automate group provisioning?
To view the current group attribute values provided by your identity provider, navigate to Admin management in the Calendly app, then export the active or pending user list. This will provide a column called “Identity Provider Group”. This is the value that should be put in to the mapping table for “Value in Identity Provider”. This field is case sensitive.
Depending on your SSO, you will need to create a new attribute for mapping. Then, once you decide which source attribute to apply, provision a user as usual into Calendly.
Inside Calendly, you will just need to turn on group mapping, then match your souce fields to the Calendly fields.
You will also have the option to apply any changes to your existing Calendly users at this stage, in case you have created new groups since they were added.
Then just preview and save!
