SMS limits and your Calendly subscription

To offer high-quality text messaging features, Calendly has set a limit on the number of text messages (SMS) organizations can send.

  • Non-Enterprise plans get 250 SMS credits per seat per month.
    • For example, a solo user gets 250 credits, while a 3-person team gets 750 credits total.
  • Enterprise plans get 1,000 SMS credits per seat per month.

The number of credits used per message depends on the destination country. Each message will cost zero (0), one (1), three (3), or nine (9) credits, based on the SMS rates for that country. See below for a list of what countries fall under each credit tier.

What happens once I reach my SMS limit?

When your organization has used 90% of its SMS credits, you’ll receive an email notification, as shown below.

sms limit email notification.png

When your organization has used 100% of its SMS credits, text messages to hosts and invitees will be sent as emails instead. There will be no interruptions in communication. However, if your invitees usually get SMS alerts, it's a good idea to let them know they might receive emails instead.

Credits are automatically refilled on the 1st of each month at 12am UTC.

Best practices for reducing SMS usage

  1. Reduce the total number of texts sent for a single meeting

    • For example, if you’re sending two reminder texts and one follow-up text, consider sending a single reminder text and switch that follow-up to an email instead.

  2. Do not send texts for large group/webinar events

    • Since group event types tend to use a lot of notifications, you might want to keep notifications to invitees as email only, and use text messages for smaller meetings, like one-on-one events.

  3. Consider upgrading to Enterprise

    • Enterprise customers get much larger and customizable SMS limits.
