Organization SMS limits

In order to continue providing best-of-class text messaging (hereafter referred to as SMS) functionalities to all of our customers, Calendly has implemented a SMS limit on organizations.

Any organization on a non-enterprise plan will receive 250 text message credits per seat per month. For example, a solo organization would have 250 credits total, while a 3-person organization would have 750 credits available across the organization.

Organizations on the enterprise plan will receive 1,000 credits per seat per month.

Depending on the country an SMS message is sent to, each message sent will cost a certain number of your text message credits. The credit amount is determined by SMS costs within the destination country, and will either be zero (0), one (1), three (3) or nine (9) credits per message. The tier of a country is dependent on SMS costs within that country.

What happens once I reach my SMS limit?

Once your organization uses 90 percent of its SMS credits, you will receive an email to notify you, an example of which is shown below.

image-20230920-212207 (1).png

Once your organization uses 100 percent of its SMS credits, your text message communications (to both hosts and invitees) will send as an email instead. Your communications will not be interrupted or paused due to an SMS limit being reached. However, if your invitees typically receive SMS alerts, we recommend informing them they might receive an email instead.

Credits refill automatically on the 1st day of the month at 12am UTC.

Best practices for reducing SMS usage

  1. Reduce the total number of texts sent for a single meeting

    • For example, if you’re sending two reminder texts and one follow-up text, consider sending a single reminder text and switch that follow-up to an email instead.

  2. Do not send texts for large group/webinar events

    • Since group event types tend to use a lot of notifications, you might want to keep notifications to invitees as email only, and use text messages for smaller meetings, like one-on-one events.

  3. Consider upgrading to Enterprise

    • Enterprise customers get much larger and customizable SMS limits.
